Sound Check

Artist Statement

The village of Leigh is incredibly fortunate to have a fabulous venue, The Leigh Sawmill Cafe, which was built in the old sawmill building after it closed down. The interior is very atmospheric and is adorned with relics of its past, such as huge circular saws.

In addition to being a restaurant, they hvae hosted performances from acts as prominent as Crowded House and Billy Bragg, not to mention the Nathan Haines Quartet - and other major acts on the New Zealand circuit, such as Goldenhorse, Whirimako Black, Don McLashan and many more.

Leigh would be immeasurably poorer if The Sawmill Cafe wasn't there.

As a follow-up to the Live in Leigh exhibition, I decided to start a series of photos documenting performers in rehearsal prior to performances in Leigh.
